Nadeem - Shravan....the 90's Maestros...!!!!

Nadeem-Shravan, originally known as Nadeem Saifi and Shravan Rathod, are very successful and memorable music directors of Bollywood. Their compositions became extremely popular back in the 1990s.

Nadeem-Shravan’s foothold in the music industry became strong after Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Aashiqui’, which released in 1990. ‘Main Duniya Bhula Dunga’ and ‘Jaane Jigar Jaaneman’ from ‘Aashiqui’ were regarded as the trendiest tracks back at that time. These songs are still popular and they marked the emanation of Kumar Sanu as a singer as well.

Shravan’s father, Chaturbhuj Rathod, was a singer at Dhrupad Dhamaad. 

During his childhood, he got a chance of attending a recording of Kalyanji-Anandji. It was at that point of time, when he decided, that he also would like to become a music director. Famous ghazal singer, Roop Kumar Rathod, is his brother.At the age of 5, Shravan started to learn ‘tabla’ and at the age of 7, he started giving live performances. He met Nadeem through a common friend in college and came to know that they both share similar dreams and desires. They decided to compose music together by the name of Nadeem-Shravan and their association commenced in 1972.

Nadeem-Shravan’s first break was in a Bhojpuri film ‘Dangal’, which released in 1979. Manna Dey did the playback for one of its song which became quite popular.

Their first Hindi movie was, ‘Maine Jeena Seekh Liya’. The film was produced by Bhisham Kohli, who also happened to be Dev Anand’s nephew. ‘Chehra Kanwal Hai Aapka’ by Suresh Wadekar, was a hit song from the movie. Nadeem-Shravan also received the award for the best upcoming music director from the Vice President of India for this movie.

The era of 1980 brought the trend of action movies. Nadeem-Shravan found it difficult to compose soothing melodies, as the genre of movies didn’t suit their musical interests. They took a break from music until they were offered with ‘Aashiqui’.

‘Nazar Ke Saamne’, 'Dheere Dheere Se', ‘Main Duniya Bhulaa Dunga’, ‘Jaane Jigar Jaaneman’, ‘Ek Sanam Chaiye’, ‘Dil Ka Aalam’ are some of the super hit tracks from ‘Aashiqui’.

Nadeem-Shravan composed music of all types. But their composition always had a melodious flavor. ‘Bahut Pyar Karte Hain Tumko Sanam’ (Saajan), ‘Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin’ (Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi), ‘Sochenge Tumhe Pyar’ (Deewana), ‘Aaye Ho Meri Zindagi Mein’ (Raja Hindustani), ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’ (Pardes) are some of the enduring compositions by Nadeem-Shravan.

Subhash Ghai’s ‘Pardes’ added new feathers to the cap of the duo. It had all types of songs from every genre of music. ‘I love My India’ (patriotic), ‘Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain’ (soft romantic), ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’ (emotional), ‘My First Day In America’ (pop), ‘Nahi Hona Tha’ (qawali), were all phenomenal tracks from the movie. Nadeem-Shravan got outstanding reviews for such divergent composition of music in ‘Pardes’.

They worked with almost every sensational singer of their time including Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurty, Sadhna Sargam, Abhijeet, Sonu Nigam, but their initial success and bonding lied with Kumar Sanu.

The duo faced some legal 
trouble when Nadeem was accused for the murder of Gulshan Kumar (Founder of T-Series). He was accused of paying a contract killer to shoot Kumar. Nadeem was already in London at that time and the London High Court rejected Indian Government’s plea to hand him over for the trial. Later, charges against him were dismissed due to inadequate evidences.

Nadeem continued to stay in UK after the incident. They stopped composing for some time only to return back later with ‘Yeh Dil Aashiqana’, ‘Ek Rishta’, ‘Hum Ho Gaye Aapke’, ‘Raaz’, ‘Hungama’, ‘Andaaz’, ‘Tumsa Nahi Dekha’, ‘Dosti’ and ‘Do Knot Disturb’. ‘Do Knot Disturb’ is their last work together till date.

Nadeem Shravan also won several Filmfare Awards for their compositions. Their first Filmfare Award was for ‘Aashiqui’ (1990), followed by ‘Saajan’ (1991), ‘Deewana’ (1992), ‘Raja Hindustani’ (1996).

After ‘Do Knot Disturb’ they decided to part ways. Nadeem is a businessman now and Shravan is busy setting up his son’s movie production house. However, reportedly, it is said that Nadeem-Shravan may return in the sequel of Lawrence D’souza’s ‘Saajan’, which would go on floors soon.

 É um pouco complicado expressar o meu sentimento por você, mas tenha certeza que é um amor imenso. 

A cada dia que passa, eu só tenho a te agradecer, pois você está sempre perto quando eu preciso, está por perto nos momentos de alegrias, está por perto quando preciso de um ombro amigo, sempre pronto para me dar o maior apoio, está sempre me protegendo e corrigindo, está sempre apontando algum erro, para que eu possa melhorar... Meu pai, você se lembra quando cheguei ao mundo? 
Você me pegou em seus braços com aquele carinho paterno 
e ainda trago guardado em meu coração aquele calor que 
aquece e protege.

Hoje pai, sou um homem vitorioso, pois graças aos seus ensinamentos 
tenho uma vida digna e honesta.

Hoje é seu dia amigão, e não podia deixar passar em branco o aniversário do meu primeiro e melhor amigo! Ensinou-me a ser criança, me ajudou em todos os momentos malucos da adolescência, me acompanhou nos tempos de adulto e nunca deixou de se fazer presente agora que estou chegando á meia-idade…???!!!. Agradeço todos os dias por você existir na minha vida, principalmente por ter a oportunidade de ter nascido como seu filho.

 Espero que possamos comemorar muitos e muitos aniversários, que a saúde nunca saia de perto de você e tenha todos aqueles sonhos do passado, enfim realizados. Saiba que cumpriu sua tarefa de pai, marido, sogro e avô com muito louvor e com certeza é merecedor das melhores conquistas.

 Você sempre dedicou tempo às pessoas que ama, colocando a família em primeiro lugar. E por causa do teu carácter maravilhoso, hoje eu sou um homem melhor. Os teus ensinamentos são mais valiosos do que ouro.

Você sempre foi tão compreensivo comigo, mesmo quando eu agia da forma mais louca! Obrigado por sempre me ouvir, mesmo quando muitas coisas que eu dizia não faziam sentido.

 Aprendi com você o valor do respeito, porque sempre respeitou os meus sentimentos e pensamentos. Ainda hoje, quando eu tenho medo e estou inseguro, você sempre sabe como aumentar a minha confiança, mas acima de tudo por me corrigir quando eu erro. Você moldou o meu carácter para que eu pudesse ser a pessoa digna que eu sou hoje. E isso não foi fácil, não é? Você investiu muito tempo em mim, e essa é uma das maiores provas de amor!

Você sempre teve um jeitinho especial de me mostrar o quanto eu sou especial. Do teu lado sempre me senti valorizado.

O que você transmitiu para mim tem um valor incrível. Espero um dia conseguir passar para os meus filhos todas as coisas bonitas que aprendi com você.
